Kirsty Davies: October Salon Guest

Dear Sophisticated Ladies

Today I discovered the power of wind, of being blown hither and thither in gusts of light rain – why did I bother using a diffuser on my hair before opening the front door? Mary Poppins frankly should lose the neat hat as it does nothing for her hair! Oh the volumising power of an autumn day and Barry after the weekend chemical ‘leak’ one could also benefit from highlights!

I write to invite you to the October Salon on Monday 24 October when my guest will be Kirsty Davies. Kirsty is the Deputy Director of the Institute of Welsh Affairs and a local councillor in Cardiff. In her elected capacity Kirsty chaired a Scrutiny Committee looking into the Trafficking of Adults for the Purpose of Sexual Exploitation in South Wales and it is the findings of this report that she will be talking about.

Kirsty is a passionate advocate for democracy and I will be interested to find out more about the realities of life as a local councillor. Is the surgery a form of democratic confessional? Exactly what is Kirsty asked to sort out by her constituents – of course I will be curious about the more unusual requests she receives as well as the routine complaints about noise and dog mess!

So if you are intrigued about finding more about women in Welsh democracy and getting an insight into the machinations of local politics why not join me for the Salon. The subject may be rather more serious than those we have considered to date but I can promise the delicious delights of Wood’s Brasserie as well as the frivolous enjoyable evening that the Salon offers.

The date for the November Salon is Tuesday 22 November with my guest Sue Williams the extraordinary visual artist who is currently exercised about censorship. Currently collaborating with the National Dance Company Wales Sue is not afraid of exploring new ground especially when it comes to costumes! Naked the dancers are not but nude perhaps they are; fabric can be awfully revealing – I refer you to my review of Carlos Acosta the Cuban Ballet Dancer!

If you are intrigued enough to be tempted to book both Salons the early booking offer is available until 15 October at £45 for two opportunities to spend the evening in the company of your hostess and Francois the Maitre d’ at Wood’s! OK Francois work there but that’s hardly the point ladies!

In sophisticated anticipation of receiving your response
