Every year the Arts Council of Wales gives bursaries for artists and creative people to take time out to develop their practice. From time out to learn a new technique or visit another creative individual for inspiration or (and this is the most important in many ways) to take time out of the daily routine to just be i.e. explore ideas without the constraints of routine income generating activity. This year two women who I personally take inspiration from have had their creative brilliance rewarded thus.
Jain Boon a theatre practitioner who I met through Gwent Theatre where she was an actor-tutor and director of work for young audiences. Jain is a bubbly character who simultaneously manages to inspire her proteges to believe in themselves and take create risks whilst creating a nurturing (and safe) environment within which to take those risks. It has been an honour to work with her over the last few years. I am delighted that finally her day has come to explore her own practice starting with a visit to a company in Germany. Well done lady I am SO proud of you and can’t wait to see where this journey takes you. If you fancy find out more about Jain follow this link http://www.artscouncilofwales.org/creative%20wales
Alongside the bursaries are the Creative Wales Ambassadors and this year Cermacist Claire Curneen has been selected as one. Claire was a guest at a the Victorious Endeavours Salon last autumn and she is just a hoot! A wicked sense of humour coupled with an excellent track record I couldn’t think of many other people who would be able to fulfil this role so perfectly; OK I am a little biased as I am a HUGE fan of her work. Check out her website and persaude yourself your personal living environment needs a Curneen to complete the aesthetic; I am still angling over an anenome!
